In high-traffic areas, ensuring pedestrian safety is a top priority. When traditional crosswalk markings and static signs fail to capture motorists' attention, additional safety measures become essential. LightGuard Systems’ RRFB Pedestrian Crosswalk System provides a proven, high-visibility solution to enhance pedestrian protection. Engineered to alert drivers in real-time to pedestrians at crosswalks, our MUTCD-compliant RRFBs significantly improve safety by increasing driver awareness and compliance. Studies by the FHWA show that RRFBs can reduce pedestrian crashes by up to 47% and increase driver yield rates to as high as 98%.
Pedestrians activate the RRFB system using an ADA compliant push-button device and/or passively with the LightGuard Systems automatic detection bollard sensors. The RRFB is a stand-alone pedestrian warning system that is commonly paired with static or
flashing LED warning signs
(AC only). Our AC RRFB is also compatible with our
in-roadway warning lights (IRWL). When paired with IRWL, it increases visibility and motorist yielding.
With LightGuard Systems’ innovative approach to pedestrian safety, communities can create safer crosswalks and reduce the risk of accidents.

LIGHTGUARD’s MUTCD compliant Solar Wireless AOI RRFB system is a budget-friendly, easy-to-install solution to improve driver yield rates at uncontrolled crossings at mid-block crosswalks, trail crossings, and school zones. Pedestrian push buttons activate an irregular flash pattern (WW+S) that alerts motorists to pedestrians inside, or about to cross a crosswalk. The LGS-RRFB AIO product line is powered by a solar wireless unit controller and used with FYG pedestrian, school, trail crossing, or other custom warning sign.
Application Notes:
The solar-powered wireless RRFB supports a minimum of 180 daily activations, with the option to reach an average of 350 activations when upgraded with additional power and sufficient solar exposure. It contains front and side pedestrian LEDs and requires adequate solar exposure for optimal performance.
Key Features:
Typical System Components:
This furnish-only system ensures reliable pedestrian safety enhancements where solar exposure is sufficient.
The AIO system can be upgraded for data logging, remote access, and phone programmability as optional add-ons.
Our AC Hardwired RRFB System offers maximum power and flexibility with multiple inputs and outputs, multi-system operation, and the ability to collect directional statistics, detects peak hours, and track weekly and monthly usage patterns. Activation method options are push buttons, bollard sensors, RADs, motion detection, or wireless remote key FOB. Once activated, an irregular flash pattern (WW+S) alerts motorists to pedestrians inside, or about to cross a crosswalk. Our AC RRFB is powered by our Universal AC controller and commonly paired with LED flashing or static MUTCD pedestrian, school, trail crossing, or other MUTCD or other custom warning sign.
Application Notes:
The AC hardwired RRFB with LGS-UC-AC offers reliable pedestrian warning with maximum flexibility to meet most any needs, including 4 solid state outputs to support multiple configurations, plus 6 solid state inputs.
Key System Features:
Easy Activation & High Visibility – Pedestrians activate the RRFB manually using an ADA-compliant push button or automatically via bollard sensors or RADs. Motion sensors and radar are also available.
Configurations – Single with front and side LEDs, or back-to-back for a total of 4.
Enhanced Safety Signage – Works alongside static and flashing LED pedestrian warning signs for increased visibility.
Reporting – data logging, remote access, and phone programmability
Multi-System Operation – Capable of supporting synchronization of up to three RRFB systems.
