Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons

Increase crosswalk safety with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) System — from LightGuard Systems

^

The RRFB is an economical, easy-to-install pedestrian safety measure that increases motorist yielding. The LightGuard Systems RRFB uses high-intensity LEDs (light-emitting diodes) located on both the RRFB front and sides to alert drivers of pedestrians in a crosswalk in real-time. It flashes at a highly visible MUTCD approved on/off rate that demands motorists’ attention.

Pedestrians activate the RRFB system using an ADA compliant push-button device and/or passively with the LightGuard Systems automatic detection bollard sensors.

The RRFB is a stand-alone pedestrian warning system that is commonly paired with static LED warning signs. However, it is also compatible with our in-roadway warning lights (IRWL). When paired with IRWL, it increases visibility and motorist yielding.

RRFB Increases Driver Yielding While Improving Visibility in Locations Such As:

  • Urban mid-block crosswalks
  • School crossings
  • Intersections with through lanes on major legs
  • Multi-lane crosswalks
  • Greenways
  • Trail crossings
  • Public parking garages
  • Corporate campuses

B2B Solar Powered Wireless RRFB System Components

  • 2 Enclosures
  • 2 Wireless transceivers
  • 2 Solar panels with pole mounts
  • 2 Batteries
  • 2 Push-button stations
  • 2-30” Diamond static FYG pedestrian warning signs (W11-2), or schoolhouse crossing warning signs (S1-1)
  • 2-12” x 24” Down arrow signs (W16-7p)

Application Notes

The wireless RRFB uses FCC-approved matched transceivers to securely communicate pedestrian activation from either crosswalk entrance up to 250 ft. (75m) apart and is designed to support one RRFB up to 500 daily activations (30 sec each) for seven days without requiring battery recharge. Additional solar capacity (solar panel and/or battery) can be upgraded based on usage requirements.

The controllers and transceivers are factory installed and assembled into a lockable NEMA 4 cabinet. Installation requires connecting the battery, solar panel, RRFB, and a push-button to the enclosure mounted behind the static MUTCD W11-2 pedestrian, S1-1 schoolhouse crossing, or trail crossing sign.
